Ranchi, August 9: The ongoing student movement in Jharkhand, protesting irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams, has intensified significantly. In a show of solidarity, JMM MLA Jairam Mahto held a day-long waterless fast at the old assembly premises on Sunday. This fast was in support of students who have been on hunger strike for the past 16 days.
Speaking to reporters, Jairam Mahto stated, “To strengthen the protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, I have initiated a day-long waterless fast. I have been sitting here since 6 AM.”
The leader launched a fierce attack on the state government, questioning its role. He said, “These are the same people causing these issues. What is the role of the JCM? You are in power, so will you engage with them? Only when protests escalate, and people sit on dharna or hunger strikes, will you come to the table as delegates.”
Meanwhile, protesting student Nishant Yadav made serious allegations against the government. He remarked, “This government has become obstinate and tyrannical, so it is indifferent to our plight. To awaken them, we need to shake things up, and we are doing just that. We will succeed.”
Nishant identified himself as a victim of the system, stating, “I am also a student. I have appeared for CGL, JPSC, PGT, and JET exams, all of which have faced irregularities. We can see the discrepancies with our own eyes, yet Hemant Soren says, ‘Look into my heart to see how right we are.’”
Students have been protesting at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for 16 days over allegations of paper leaks, fraud, and irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitments. Many students on hunger strike are now experiencing deteriorating health.
