Ranchi, May 27: The Jharkhand police have cracked the case of a double murder involving a couple who attended the Chhau dance festival in the Khunti district. According to police reports, the killings stemmed from personal enmity and jealousy. The main accused, Sumber Singh Manki, along with two accomplices, Gomeya Soy and Budharam Soy, have been arrested and are now in custody.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the Superintendent of Police for Khunti revealed that evidence collected from the scene included the weapon used in the murders, blood-stained soil, clothing, and sandals. Investigations revealed that Sumber Singh Manki had recently married but had to leave for work in another state shortly after. Before his departure, he entrusted the care of his wife to his close friend, Vishu Pahan. During Sumber’s absence, his wife developed a friendship with another young man, which he learned about upon his return.
Police stated that Sumber was more upset with Vishu than with his wife, believing that Vishu had betrayed his trust by not informing him of the situation. This led to feelings of revenge.
On the night of May 17, during the Chhau dance event in Saiko, Vishu attended the festival with his former girlfriend, Sumi Mundu. Sumber attacked Vishu with a weapon from a distance, and when Sumi attempted to intervene, he attacked her as well. Both victims died at the scene.
After committing the murders, Sumber called upon his two friends, Gomeya and Budharam, to help him dispose of the bodies. Together, they hid the remains in the dense bushes of Marangburu Hill and fled the scene. The following day, police recovered the bodies. Due to the severity of the case, a special investigation team was formed, leading to the swift arrest of all three suspects based on technical evidence and confidential information.
