Howrah, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : A joint mock drill was conducted at Howrah Station by the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to evaluate emergency preparedness for the Vande Bharat Express. This exercise took place on the night of September 28, underscoring the station’s critical security importance, as it serves around one million passengers daily.
The drill aimed to assess how quickly relief and rescue operations could be executed in the event of a sudden disaster. Vishal Kapoor, the Divisional Railway Manager of Howrah, explained that the mock drill was designed to test the readiness for managing large-scale emergencies.
The Vande Bharat Express was specifically chosen for this exercise due to its unique design compared to other trains. During the drill, the focus was on safely evacuating passengers and effectively conducting relief operations in an emergency situation.
Personnel from both the NSG and RPF participated in the drill. This follows a previous mock drill conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which focused on post-train accident rescue operations. The exercise provided a practical demonstration of the processes involved in ensuring passenger safety and executing relief work during a disaster.
