Ranchi, February 26: The Jharkhand High Court has dismissed the criminal revision petition filed by former minister Kamlesh Singh’s family, including his son Surya Sonal Singh, wife Madhu Singh, daughter Ankita Singh, and son-in-law Narendra Mohan Singh. This decision pertains to a case involving disproportionate assets and money laundering.
Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay’s bench issued this ruling, clearing the way for the lower court to resume proceedings in the case. The trial court’s process had been halted while the matter was under consideration in the High Court. With this stay now lifted, hearings in the special court can continue. Charges in the case had already been established.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that during Kamlesh Singh’s tenure, his family members purportedly acquired assets using illegal funds and attempted to legitimize them. The agency claims that a total of ₹5,83,64,197 was involved in the money laundering activities. The ED registered the case on October 10, 2009. Previously, a discharge petition filed by the accused was rejected by the High Court on November 25, 2017. Following this, the accused submitted a criminal revision petition, which has now been dismissed.
In this case related to disproportionate assets, the ED has named former minister Kamlesh Singh, his wife Madhu Singh, son Surya Sonal Singh, daughter Ankita Singh, and son-in-law Narendra Mohan Singh as accused. The agency asserts that attempts were made to present the allegedly illegally acquired assets as legitimate through various means.
In 2017, a special ED court in Ranchi had sent Surya Sonal Singh and Narendra Mohan Singh to judicial custody. The agency reiterated the ₹5.83 crore money laundering allegations at that time.
Following the recent order, the trial process in the special court is expected to accelerate. The ED will now present witnesses and documentary evidence before the court. The date for the next hearing will be set by the lower court.
