Bhopal, September 3: Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to transform farmers from producers to exporters, a goal being achieved through Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs).
During the inauguration of the online platform for the Farmers Consortium for Agriculture and Allied Sector (FMCAS), Tomar emphasized that while farmers grow their produce, a significant portion of its value often goes to others, making this system unsustainable.
Prime Minister Modi envisions that farmers in the country transition from being mere producers to becoming exporters. Indian farmers work hard and produce abundantly, but their biggest challenges lie not in production itself but in securing fair prices, direct market access, storage, processing, branding, and trade capabilities. FPOs are proving to be crucial in changing the landscape for farmers. Organized efforts like these aim to significantly increase farmers’ incomes.
Reflecting on his tenure as Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Tomar recalled discussions focused on farmers’ income, market access, and collective strength. It became clear that if farmers entered the market individually, their selling potential would be limited. However, if they organized, pooled their produce, processed it, built brands, and entered the market collectively, their power would multiply. This understanding led to a major campaign promoting FPOs across the country.
Tomar noted that a large number of FPOs have been established nationwide, marking a significant achievement. The current goal is to ensure that these FPOs become sustainable and commercially viable. By working in this direction, we can fulfill Prime Minister Modi‘s dream of making the country’s farmers exporters.
