Ranchi, June 23: The announcement of the posthumous Padma Bhushan award for Shibu Soren, a prominent leader of the Jharkhand movement and former Chief Minister of the state, has sparked joy and pride across Jharkhand. Leaders have welcomed this honor, recognizing it as a tribute to Soren’s long struggle and contributions. They have also reiterated their demand for him to be awarded the Bharat Ratna.
Manoj Pandey, spokesperson for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), expressed his happiness over the Padma Bhushan award, stating that it is a matter of pride for the entire state. He emphasized that Shibu Soren truly deserves the Bharat Ratna, but this recognition from the central government should also be celebrated.
Pandey remarked that Shibu Soren is not just a leader but an institution and an ideology in himself. His life, struggles, and philosophy will continue to guide future generations. He urged the central government to include Soren’s life struggles and contributions in the national educational curriculum, so that the younger generation can draw inspiration from his thoughts and endeavors.
Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha also welcomed the honor bestowed upon Shibu Soren. He noted that this moment is not only a source of pride for the Soren family but for all of Jharkhand. Sinha highlighted that Soren rightfully deserves this recognition, as he historically amplified the voices of forests, land, and tribal communities, bringing their issues to the assembly and parliament. He added that while the Padma Bhushan is a fitting honor, awarding him the Bharat Ratna would have been an even greater pride for Jharkhand.
It is noteworthy that President Droupadi Murmu will present the posthumous Padma Bhushan award to Shibu Soren during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. His wife, Rupi Soren, will receive the award on his behalf.
