Jewish Comedian Withdraws from Passover Event Due to Controversial Mayors Attendance

New York, March 31: Jewish comedian Mordechai Rosenfeld announced on Monday that he will not participate in the annual Passover-themed event in Lower Manhattan. His decision came after learning that New York City Mayor Joharan Mamdani would also be attending. He shared this news via his Instagram story.

Rosenfeld, professionally known as “Mody,” revealed to the Times of Israel that he opted out of the Passover event upon discovering the mayor’s involvement. Mayor Mamdani is scheduled to speak at the event held at City Winery in Manhattan. Mody, an Israeli-American comedian, was set to perform at the event. In his Instagram story, he expressed his surprise, stating he had not been informed of Mamdani’s participation until now.

Mamdani has been critical of Israeli policies and the actions of the Netanyahu government against Hamas in Palestine. He has also supported the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement, which seeks to exert economic and political pressure on Israel.

During his mayoral campaign, Mamdani faced backlash for his anti-Israel sentiments. According to Israeli National News, on his first day in office, he revoked executive orders related to Israel that had been issued by his predecessor, Eric Adams.

One of the orders he annulled in June 2025 formally recognized the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. Additionally, he rescinded another order that prohibited elected mayors and agency staff from boycotting Israel or withdrawing investments from the country.

Since taking office, Mamdani has encountered several controversies regarding antisemitism. A recent report indicated that his wife, Rama Dawaji, had liked multiple social media posts praising or supporting the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023.

Moreover, Israeli National News reported that earlier this month, Mamdani was hosted at a Ramadan event by an individual who had called for bombings of Tel Aviv by Hamas.
