
Patna, August 16: A jewelry store owner was shot in an attempted robbery in a posh area of Patna’s Kankarbagh police station jurisdiction on Friday night. The owner, Deepak Kumar of Aanchal Alankar Jewelers, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU of a private hospital. His condition is reported to be serious.
According to SDPO Manoj Kumar, the incident occurred around 10 PM. Police recovered a firearm from the scene and are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Initial reports indicate that Deepak Kumar was inside his store when a masked assailant attempted to enter through the back door, which was left open while the front shutter was partially closed. Deepak’s wife noticed the intruder and confronted him. Together, they tried to thwart the robbery, leading to a struggle during which the assailant allegedly fired a shot, hitting Deepak in the abdomen. He collapsed on the spot, while the attacker fled, leaving the weapon behind.
Upon receiving the alert, police arrived promptly and rushed Deepak to a nearby private hospital for emergency care. Investigating teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the events and identify the perpetrators. Raids are being conducted at potential locations to capture the fleeing suspect.
The recovered weapon and the CCTV footage will play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation. Patna police have registered an FIR against unidentified assailants under relevant sections for attempted robbery and attempted murder at the Kankarbagh police station.
This incident has raised concerns among local business owners, particularly jewelers, about their safety. The attack inside a jewelry store has heightened fears regarding the security of their establishments.
