Tragic Accident in Karnal: One Dead and Over 20 Injured in High-Voltage Wire Incident

Karnal, August 16: A tragic incident occurred in Karnal district of Haryana late Sunday night. A canter filled with devotees came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-voltage wire near the mini bypass in Gharonda. The vehicle caught fire immediately upon contact with the wire. One person lost their life, and over 20 devotees sustained injuries. The injured were promptly admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, around 65 to 70 people were on board the canter, all heading to Bagad Dham.

A relative of one of the devotees shared, “There was a 11 kV wire above. The wire touched the vehicle, which led to the fire. Those who were sitting back with their backs resting were all burned.”

Another eyewitness confirmed, “We were on our way to Bagad Dham. The wire was quite low near the mini bypass in Gharonda. After the wire touched the canter, the fire broke out. Those who were leaning back were all burned.”

The family of the deceased reported receiving the news via phone. They stated, “I was lying at home when I got a call about a major accident. I rushed to the scene. My friend Naresh was taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.”

Doctors at the Karnal hospital indicated that they received initial information about a mass casualty incident. “I expected 10-15 patients. I attended to seven and referred them. Some had low blood pressure, others reported body pain, and some had leg injuries,” a doctor explained.

Due to the large number of casualties, many injured were sent directly to other doctors outside. With the help of staff, ambulances were arranged quickly to transport the injured to other facilities. Currently, only one person is receiving treatment here.
