Chandigarh, June 19: Jatinder Pal Malhotra, the Chandigarh BJP president, has addressed the political controversy surrounding his recent controversial remarks. He stated that his comments were made in a light-hearted manner regarding the identity of Punjab and Punjabis. Malhotra emphasized that his statement was taken out of context, leading to unnecessary disputes. He expressed regret if his words hurt anyone’s feelings.
In a conversation, Malhotra clarified that he is Punjabi and has a deep understanding of Punjab’s culture, traditions, and identity. He insisted that his intention was not to insult anyone but to highlight popular aspects related to the identity of Punjabis.
“I am Punjabi myself and I know what it means to be a Punjabi,” he stated. “The comments I made were in that context. However, only one line was presented without the full context, which led to a misunderstanding. I have released a video to clarify my stance. If the entire video is viewed, it will be clear that I did not target any community or individual. I was discussing my identity and that of Punjab.”
Malhotra accused political opponents of misrepresenting his remarks. He expressed sorrow if anyone was offended by his comments, stating, “What more can I say? My intention was never to hurt anyone.” He also criticized the Congress party, claiming they lack a solid agenda to address public issues.
He questioned, “Does the Congress have any issues at all? Have they ever said they will organize a tournament for 5,000 children when we have already organized one for 3,000? The opposition should focus on development issues.”
