Beijing, May 4: Following Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi‘s recent expression of intent to amend the constitution, public sentiment in Japan and various opposition parties have raised concerns regarding constitutional changes. They are advocating for the protection of Article 9 of the constitution.
An editorial published on May 3 in the Ryukyu Shimpo highlighted a growing trend to undermine the peace provisions of the constitution. This includes allowing the exercise of collective self-defense, maintaining the capability to attack “enemy bases,” and lifting the ban on arms exports.
On the same day, multiple opposition parties issued statements and comments expressing their commitment to safeguarding Article 9 of the constitution.
