Jammu, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat conducted a review of ongoing anti-terror operations in Poonch district on Monday. Accompanied by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tejinder Singh from the Jammu zone, the DGP closely examined the operations and the overall security situation in the area.
An official reported that the DGP was briefed on recent developments, operational readiness, and the coordination among various security agencies on the ground. This review is particularly significant in light of recent infiltration attempts and the activities of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the Pir Panjal region.
Recently, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) carried out several raids in the Mandi and Surankote areas of Poonch and Udhampur. These operations aimed to target networks involved in spreading radicalization and facilitating cross-border communications.
The SIA uncovered evidence indicating that several local individuals were in direct contact with handlers across the Line of Control (LoC). These connections were allegedly being exploited to promote separatist ideologies and online radicalization.
Earlier in September, soldiers stationed at the border detected a group of terrorists attempting to cross the LoC near Dabbie village in the Balakot sector (Mendhar). This led to intense gunfire from both sides and initiated a large-scale search operation in the surrounding forests.
Extensive cordon and search operations (CASO) are currently ongoing in remote forested areas such as Sangla, Bhatadurian, and Kherowali Dhok. These efforts were launched based on technical intelligence and local reports regarding suspicious activities near key infrastructure projects like the Pir Panjal tunnel.
The current framework of anti-terror operations in Poonch is determined by high-level security reviews and intelligence-based raids. A joint security grid involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and specialized central agencies has intensified measures to prevent cross-border infiltration and dismantle terrorist networks.
