Seoul, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The annual cultural festival celebrating Indian heritage is set to begin this week in South Korea. The Indian Embassy announced on Monday that the event will feature traditional dance performances and workshops across various cities.
The 12th edition of the “Sarang – Festival of India in Korea” will take place from September 12 to 22 in Seoul, as well as in the southeastern cities of Busan and Gimhae, and the southwestern city of Gwangju, among other locations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the festival, which started in 2015, aims to showcase India’s diverse culture and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
This year, the festival will highlight one of India’s prominent classical dance forms, Odissi, performed by a troupe led by renowned dancer Madhulita Mohapatra. The troupe will kick off their performances with a show at Ewha Womans University in Seoul on Tuesday before traveling to other regions. They will also conduct workshops for Korean dance enthusiasts.
Additionally, the 14th Indian Film Festival is scheduled for November, featuring six award-winning Indian films with Korean subtitles under the theme “Against the Odds: Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Courage.”
In a related event, the Indian Embassy showcased traditional arts and crafts from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh at Heritage Korea 2026. The embassy shared on social media that this event, held in Gyeongju from September 11-12, provided visitors with an immersive experience of India’s rich cultural traditions through hands-on activities like mehndi and mandala art.
The embassy also participated in the Sinchon World Youth Festival, highlighting the diversity of Indian culture. They reported that attendees enjoyed hands-on experiences with mandala art and mehndi while a captivating Kathak dance performance by SVC College students showcased the beauty of India’s classical traditions. The embassy is promoting the upcoming Sarang Festival, inviting audiences to learn more about India’s vibrant cultural heritage.
