Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Begins Three-Day Visit to Bhutan

Thimphu, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar commenced a three-day visit to Bhutan on Monday. During his trip, he is set to meet with the King of Bhutan and participate in the country’s National Voter’s Day celebrations.

An official statement indicated that this visit aims to enhance institutional collaboration between the election commissions of India and Bhutan, promoting ongoing mutual cooperation.

As part of his itinerary, Kumar will meet with the King of Bhutan in Thimphu. A significant event is scheduled for Tuesday at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Paro, where Kumar will serve as the chief guest for the National Voter’s Day observance.

On Wednesday, Kumar is expected to meet with Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Dasho Shering Tobgay, and engage in discussions with senior civil servants in the country.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has consistently engaged with other nations to promote democratic processes and election management.

Previously, representatives from the International Election Visitors Program 2026 (IEVP 2026) were shown a live demonstration of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and a mock poll in New Delhi, providing them with practical insights into India’s robust, technology-driven, and transparent electoral process.

The statement noted that a live demonstration of EVMs was conducted at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) for international representatives of IEVP 2026.

During the demonstration, IIIDEM Director General Rakesh Kumar Verma emphasized India’s unwavering commitment to electoral integrity, inclusivity, and institutional excellence.

The live demo offered representatives a valuable opportunity to understand India’s secure, transparent, and technology-based electoral framework. Under the IEVP, representatives from 23 countries, including members from five foreign missions in Delhi, participated in the initial phase of the program, visiting Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry on April 8-9 to observe the voting process.
