Jain Monk Invited to Attend Khameneis State Funeral in Tehran

New Delhi, July 1: Jain monk and founder of Ahimsa World Bharati, Acharya Lokesh Muni, has received a formal invitation to attend the state funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He has accepted the invitation. The funeral will take place on July 4 and 5 in Tehran.

The invitation was posted on the Jain monk’s official X account, stating, “On the invitation of the Iranian government, peace ambassador Jain Acharya Lokeshji will travel from the United States to Tehran. Acharya will participate in the funeral of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Complex on July 3, 2026, alongside heads of state and global leaders.”

According to the post, the Jain monk is currently in the United States. It further mentioned, “During the peace goodwill tour in America, the immediate visit to Iran, following unprecedented support for Gurudev’s ‘We Support Peace’ campaign from both Republican and Democratic leaders, will mark a significant milestone towards global peace.”

The invitation letter from the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader noted, “Given the historical ties between India and Iran, Acharya Lokesh Muni’s presence will symbolize deep respect and friendship between the two nations.”

According to Iranian state media IRNA, an estimated 12 to 20 million people are expected to attend the funeral. Consequently, special arrangements for security, transportation, healthcare, and other services are being made throughout Tehran. Vehicle movement will also be restricted on several routes in the city.

The Indian government will be represented by Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margerita.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who served as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic for 36 years, passed away on February 28 due to a US-Israel attack. This incident occurred on the first day of airstrikes on Tehran. Khamenei had long directed Iran’s political landscape and governance.

According to Iranian media, the funeral preparations include several major religious events. A ceremony will also be held in the holy city of Qom on July 7. Following this, he will be laid to rest in Mashhad on July 9, the place of his birth.
