Mumbai, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Irshad Kamil has played a pivotal role in shaping the soundtracks of Bollywood films, making them memorable for years. A celebrated lyricist, Kamil’s journey is a testament to his passion and perseverance.
Born on September 5, 1971, in Malerkotla, Punjab, Kamil hails from a middle-class Punjabi Muslim family. His father, Mohammad Siddique, worked in the chemistry department at a government college, while his mother, Begum Iqbal Bano, inspired his name. She often listened to a program called “Tamil Irshad” on All India Radio before his birth, which led her to choose that name for him.
Kamil’s academic background is impressive. After completing his studies in journalism, he pursued a Ph.D. in Hindi poetry. His love for literature blossomed in childhood, allowing him to master both Hindi and Urdu languages early on.
Initially, Kamil worked for several newspapers. However, his aspiration to become a poet drove him to Mumbai, where he faced numerous challenges in his early days. Despite the struggles, his determination and talent helped him carve out a significant place in Bollywood.
He began his career in 2004, writing songs for the film “Chameli.” Since then, he has penned memorable tracks for numerous successful films, including “Jab We Met,” “Love Aaj Kal,” “Rockstar,” “Aashiqui 2,” “Ranjhana,” “Highway,” and many others.
Over his two-decade career, Kamil has collaborated with some of the industry’s biggest names. Notable songs he has written include “Agar Tum Saath Ho,” “Aaj Jin Chhadeya,” “Mera Naam Tu,” and “Dil Diya Gallan.”
Kamil is renowned for his profound writing style, literary depth, and the seamless blend of Hindi and Urdu words. He also has a strong command of Punjabi. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, further solidifying his status as one of Bollywood’s top lyricists.
