Tehran, March 16: Amid claims from U.S. President Donald Trump that the conflict with Iran, which began on February 28, is nearing its end, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has shown no signs of capitulation. He insists that Iran will demand compensation for the damages incurred during the conflict. Khamenei stated, “We will seek reparations from our adversaries. If they refuse, we will seize their assets as we deem fit, and if that is not possible, we will destroy their properties.”
This information was reported by the Xinhua news agency, referencing a post from Khamenei’s Telegram account. Earlier, Khamenei called for continuous resistance in his first message to the nation. In a written statement, he vowed to avenge those killed in the conflict, emphasizing that Tehran will not shy away from avenging its martyrs.
Local media reported that this message was read by a female anchor on Iranian state television. It indicated that Iran is prepared to open new fronts if necessary. Iran seeks friendly relations with neighboring countries and will target only those locations from which it is attacked.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth claimed on Friday that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been injured and forced into hiding due to intense U.S. military operations. Hegseth noted that the ongoing military campaign is increasing pressure on Iran’s leadership.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran unleashed a barrage of missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli and U.S. sites and assets in the Middle East.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, stated that Iran is not seeking a ceasefire or negotiations with the U.S. He affirmed that Tehran is prepared to defend itself for as long as necessary.
According to Xinhua, in a CBS News interview broadcast on Sunday, Araghchi dismissed claims that Iran has attempted to end the war. He clarified that Iran has never requested a ceasefire nor engaged in discussions about one. “We will continue to defend ourselves as long as it is necessary,” he stated.
He added that Iran will maintain its military operations until President Donald Trump acknowledges that this is an illegal war. Araghchi remarked, “We see no reason to talk to the U.S., as we were negotiating with them when they decided to attack us.”
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Minister Araghchi emphasized that Iran has not closed this waterway. It is up to our military forces, and they have already decided to allow some vessels from various countries to pass through. He reiterated that Tehran has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons.
The minister revealed that Iran had agreed to reduce its enriched uranium during prior negotiations with the U.S. before the attacks on its nuclear facilities, but now that enriched material is buried under debris. He stated that Iran currently has no plans to recover the stockpile of enriched uranium from the damaged sites.
