Meloni Responds Strongly to Trumps Claims, Strains Italy-US Relations

New Delhi, June 19: Tensions have escalated between Italy and the United States following remarks made by former President Donald Trump regarding Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Trump claimed during a television interview that Meloni had “begged” him for a photo at the recent G7 summit. In response, Meloni firmly stated that neither she nor Italy ever begs anyone.

Expressing her displeasure, Meloni took to social media platform X, asserting, “I and Italy never beg before anyone.” She described Trump’s comments as entirely fictional and questioned why the U.S. President would behave in such a manner, particularly towards allied nations.

Meloni emphasized that regardless of political differences, the President of the United States has no right to publicly mock or insult a democratically elected leader from a close European ally.

Trump has a history of making headlines with his statements, often drawing attention to himself. At the G7 summit held in Évian, France, he arrived late to a working session. Upon entering the conference room, all attendees turned to look at him. Trump then declared, “I am the boss,” prompting laughter among the leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed him with a smile.

While this comment was lighthearted, Trump’s remarks about Meloni have sparked significant controversy, potentially impacting future relations between Italy and the United States.
