New Delhi, June 19: Vikram Doraiswami, India’s Ambassador to China, released a video message on Friday for pilgrims embarking on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY). In his message, he welcomed the travelers and provided essential advice regarding the journey.
The Indian Embassy in Beijing shared the announcement on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026, organized with the cooperation of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Chinese government, will commence from India on June 20. The embassy team warmly welcomes all pilgrims traveling to the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar through both official and private channels.”
Under Ambassador Doraiswami’s leadership, the embassy team recently inspected the travel routes. They reviewed the major paths leading from India’s Sikkim and Uttarakhand to the Tibet Autonomous Region (China), including arrangements and preparations at the Nathu La and Lipulekh passes.
While sharing the video, the embassy stated, “This is our ambassador’s message. More images and essential travel advice will be released soon. We wish all pilgrims a safe, successful, and spiritually enriching journey.”
The ambassador noted that upon reaching the Nathu La pass, Chinese customs and immigration officials will welcome the pilgrims. They will then be transported by bus to Yadong County.
In the video, he also provided crucial information regarding the travel schedule, food and beverage facilities, and currency exchange. The ambassador mentioned that additional videos containing more information about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route will be released in the future.
Last week, he visited Lhasa, the historical, cultural, and spiritual capital of Tibet, where he reviewed the preparations and facilities made for Indian pilgrims in collaboration with local administrative officials.
At Lhasa Airport, he was welcomed by Yang Lahong, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Later, the ambassador met with Zhao Peng, Vice Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, who provided detailed information about the arrangements made for the pilgrims.
Previously, on June 13, Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, flagged off the first group for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi.
