
New Delhi, March 9: Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to a U.S.-Israeli attack, his son, Ayatollah Syed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, has been appointed as his successor.
Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi congratulated Iran on this new leadership. He stated that this election will strengthen the country’s sovereignty and integrity.
The Iranian embassy shared Araghchi’s message on social media, where he expressed, “I congratulate Ayatollah Syed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei on his rightful election as the third leader of the Islamic Revolution and extend my best wishes to the great people of Iran. In the face of current challenges, this election will undoubtedly guarantee our beloved nation’s national sovereignty and regional integrity, fostering unity among the Iranian people.”
He further added, “All diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including ambassadors, chargé d’affaires, consuls, and heads of diplomatic missions abroad, along with deputy ministers, managers, and staff at the Foreign Ministry, pledge their loyalty to the third leader of the Islamic Revolution. We will spare no effort in defending the rights of our great nation, advancing national interests and security, and achieving the lofty goals of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The flag will never fall from the hands of its bearers.”
In a related development, Iran launched a missile attack on Qatar early Monday morning. Local reports indicated that the threat level was raised around 3 AM, and approximately ten minutes later, the missiles were intercepted. Media sources reported a wave of attacks from Iran targeting other Gulf countries as well.
Bahrain’s state media reported that 32 people were injured in a drone attack in the Sitra area. According to Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry, several drones targeting the Shaybah oil fields in the Empty Quarter were intercepted. This facility, operated by Aramco, typically produces over one million barrels of oil daily.
The Saudi defense ministry also reported that two drones were shot down north of the capital, Riyadh, and a projectile targeting the city’s diplomatic area was intercepted.
The UAE has also faced Iranian attacks, stating they are dealing with a significant fire in the Fujairah area caused by debris from an intercepted projectile.
