Iran Warns of Military Response if Israel Attacks Beirut

Tehran, June 4: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, has issued a stern warning that Iran will retaliate if Israel conducts an attack on Beirut. He emphasized that Tehran has made it clear to all parties that it will not tolerate any aggression against the Lebanese capital, which could potentially reignite war.

In an interview with the Lebanese TV channel Al Mayadeen on Wednesday, Araghchi stated that the Iranian military is fully prepared to take action against Israel should an attack on Beirut occur.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, Araghchi accused Israel of violating ceasefires in both Iran and Lebanon in recent days. He noted that the current conflict ties the positions of Iran and Lebanon together, suggesting that any ceasefire or agreement should involve both nations.

He also mentioned that communication between Tehran and Washington continues through the exchange of messages, but no significant progress has been made thus far. Both sides are reviewing drafts sent to each other and are working towards finalizing an agreement.

Araghchi reiterated that Iran seeks “peace and security based on respect and dignity” and does not desire war. He stated that Tehran has responded positively to proposals for dialogue, but he also indicated that the Iranian military is ready to launch military operations at any time and has the capacity to sustain prolonged warfare.

In recent weeks, Iran and the United States have exchanged several proposals related to peace conditions, mediated by Pakistan. Both countries are working to finalize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the conflict.

On Monday, Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran had halted the exchange of messages with Washington in protest of Israel’s recent actions in Lebanon. Shortly after, U.S. President Donald Trump denied this, asserting that talks between the U.S. and Iran are progressing rapidly.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had conducted missile and drone strikes on U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. This action was a response to a nighttime attack by the U.S. on an IRGC communication tower located on Iran’s southern Qeshm Island.
