Tehran, May 29: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on Friday that Iran secures concessions regarding missiles not through negotiations, but through its missile capabilities.
Ghalibaf expressed on the social media platform X, “We gain concessions not through talks, but through missiles; in negotiations, we merely make them understandable.”
In ongoing peace talks with Washington, Tehran’s top negotiator emphasized that Iran does not trust any guarantees or discussions; only actions matter. He explained Iran’s perspective in the discussions aimed at ending the war, stating that no action will be taken until the other party does something.
He stressed that the winner of any agreement is the one who is better prepared for war the next day.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration claimed that its campaign of military and economic pressure has successfully brought Iran to the negotiating table regarding its nuclear program. Treasury Secretary Scott Basset noted that Tehran is now discussing issues that previous U.S. administrations could not address.
During a news conference at the White House, Basset informed the media that recent developments indicate a significant shift in Iran’s position and highlighted that Washington’s strategy is yielding results.
Basset stated, “President Trump has done something that no other administration could do. We have persuaded the Iranians to discuss their nuclear program and possibly promise not to pursue it.”
He also mentioned that the Trump administration has set three non-negotiable conditions for any agreement with Iran: Tehran must surrender a significant amount of its enriched uranium, abandon any attempts to develop nuclear weapons, and resume free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Basset concluded, “He is not going to make a bad deal. He is going to make a big deal for the American people.” He claimed that pressure on Tehran has disrupted the Iranian leadership’s decision-making process.
He noted, “The Iranian government has three pillars: the elected government, the IRGC, and the cleric (Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei). They are facing difficulties in negotiations.”
