Mumbai, June 18: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in India on June 22 for a two-day visit. He will participate in the 16th meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) and high-level representatives on national security, scheduled for June 22-23.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that this visit is at the invitation of India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
According to the spokesperson, “Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, will attend the 16th BRICS NSA meeting held in India on June 22-23.”
India will hold the presidency of BRICS in 2026, focusing on the theme of “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.” This theme reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “human-centered and humanity-first” approach presented at the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
Earlier, on May 15, Chinese Ambassador to India, Zhou Feihong, congratulated India for successfully hosting the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. He noted that the meeting effectively addressed international and regional issues, paving the way for improvements in global governance.
He stated on the social media platform X that BRICS nations reached a broad consensus on global and regional issues and discussed reforms in the multilateral system.
However, India issued a presidential statement instead of a joint statement at the end of the meeting due to differences among member countries regarding the situation in West Asia and the Middle East.
This high-level meeting was chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
In February, a senior Chinese official, Ma Zhaoxu, visited India, where discussions included the BRICS Sherpa meeting and strategic dialogues. During this visit, serious consultations were held between Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Zhaoxu to strengthen bilateral relations.
