Vienna, March 21: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has received information regarding an attack on the Natanz nuclear facility. Iran informed the agency, which is currently investigating the incident. The IAEA confirmed the attack on its platform, while Moscow condemned it as a blatant violation of international law.
In its post, the IAEA stated that Iran reported an attack on the Natanz nuclear site on Saturday. Fortunately, there has been no increase in off-site radiation levels, indicating no immediate risk from nuclear radiation. The IAEA is reviewing the report, and its Director General, Rafael M. Grossi, reiterated the call for military oversight.
Tasnim News Agency was the first to report the incident. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran stated, “The United States and the Israeli regime targeted the Natanz enrichment complex on Saturday morning.”
The report indicates that there has been no radioactive leak from the attack, and residents in the surrounding area are not at risk.
Russia has also condemned the attack. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, described it as a clear violation of international law.
Previously, on March 2, Israel and the U.S. had also attacked this facility, which is Iran’s largest nuclear site for uranium enrichment.
Notably, a significant portion of this facility, located in Isfahan, is underground, designed to protect it from potential attacks.
Following the March 2 attack, the IAEA confirmed on March 3 that there was minor damage to buildings near the entrance of the Natanz nuclear facility.
The Natanz facility was a primary target during the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June, which eventually involved the U.S. as well.
