
New Delhi, March 23: Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, approximately 95 flights from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are expected to arrive in India on Monday. According to an official statement, a limited number of special (non-scheduled) flights are also being operated from this region, while flights from Saudi Arabia and Oman continue to run regularly.
Qatar’s airspace is partially open, and Qatar Airways is set to operate 8 to 10 special flights to India on Monday. Meanwhile, the airspace of Kuwait and Bahrain remains closed; however, Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways is conducting flights from Saudi Arabia’s Al Qaisumah Airport to India. Similarly, Bahrain’s Gulf Air is operating special flights from Saudi Arabia’s Dammam Airport.
Indian citizens stranded in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq are being repatriated to India via Saudi Arabia. Additionally, efforts are underway to bring back Indians in Iran through Armenia and Azerbaijan. So far, 1,031 Indians, including 707 students, have been evacuated through these routes.
Indian students in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz have been relocated to safe locations within the country. Arrangements are also being made to send Indians in Israel back to India via Jordan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in continuous dialogue with world leaders. He spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, extending greetings for Eid and Nowruz, expressing hope that these festivals will bring peace and stability to the region.
The Prime Minister condemned the attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, stating that they impact the global supply chain. He emphasized the need to keep maritime routes safe and open.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia, prioritizing the safety of Indian citizens. A 24-hour control room is operational, coordinating with states and union territories.
Indian embassies and missions abroad are also working around the clock. They are in contact with the Indian community through helplines, providing advice and assistance as needed.
Since February 28, approximately 375,000 travelers have returned to India from the region, and the flight operations are gradually improving.
