New Delhi, August 10: Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Supreme Leader stated, “Dr. Mohsen Rezaei, considering your invaluable experience, I appoint you as my representative to the Supreme National Security Council. You were one of the early commanders during the glorious eight-year ‘Sacred Defense’.”
Khamenei further expressed his hopes for Rezaei’s success in this significant role, wishing him the best in fulfilling his duties effectively.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), an official order released on Sunday praised Rezaei’s ‘valuable experiences’ and recognized him as one of the leading figures of the 1980s Iran-Iraq War, known as the ‘Sacred Defense’.
Rezaei served as the IRGC commander from 1981 to 1997. He is currently a member of the Expediency Discernment Council and serves as the secretary of the Supreme Council for Economic Coordination.
The official order also acknowledged the contributions of Mohammad Bagher Jolghadr, who previously held this position, thanking him for his continuous hard work and service.
Khamenei expressed his hope that Rezaei would achieve complete success in his new responsibilities, stating, “With the grace of Imam Mahdi, may you always remain a dedicated servant of the glorious Iranian people.”
The SNSC is formally chaired by President Masoud Pajeshkian and coordinates matters related to national security and foreign policy. It includes military, intelligence agencies, senior government officials, and representatives of the Islamic Revolution leader.
