Mumbai, June 13: Ira Khan, daughter of actor Aamir Khan, expressed her pride in her mother, Reena Dutta, who produced the iconic film “Lagaan.” This year marks the 25th anniversary of the film, which has been re-released.
When the name of Reena Dutta appeared on the big screen as the executive producer, Ira cheered for her mother, stating, “My mom made a beautiful film.”
Ira is the daughter of Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, who were married in 1986. They were together for 16 years before divorcing in 2002. The couple has a son named Junaid, who made his acting debut in 2024 with the OTT film “Maharaj.”
Aamir Khan later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, but they divorced in 2021. They have a son, Azad Rao Khan, born via surrogacy in 2011. Currently, Aamir is in a relationship with Gauri Sprat, confirming their relationship in 2025, with plans to marry on July 5.
“Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India,” directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, was released in 2001. The film is set in 1893 during British colonial rule in India, capturing the Victorian era’s final moments.
On its release day in 2001, “Lagaan” faced competition from Sunny Deol’s film “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.” It was the third Indian film, after “Mother India” and “Salaam Bombay!,” to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, a record that stood until 2025.
