Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Water Conservation Campaign in Schools

Lucknow, April 15: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a decisive step towards water conservation by linking it directly to schools. Under the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’, a ‘Water Fortnight’ will be held in all schools and educational institutions across the state from April 16 to April 30. This initiative aims to raise awareness among millions of students about water conservation and actively engage them in the responsibility of saving water.

Through this initiative, water conservation is being made a collective responsibility, starting from school classrooms and extending to the entire community. A key feature of the campaign is its robust monitoring system. Daily online reporting of activities will be mandatory for all schools.

Participants will be required to upload details, photos, and videos of activities via a tracker. Basic education officers at the district level have been designated as nodal officers to ensure accountability.

The Yogi government aims to transform the water conservation campaign into a widespread public movement, fostering a permanent mindset and behavior towards water conservation within society.

During the Water Fortnight, schools will be developed as water conservation centers. Workshops on water conservation will be organized, with participation from the Water Corporation, Panchayati Raj, Basic Education, and Health Departments. Additionally, a ‘Water Oath’ will be administered during daily prayer assemblies, and information related to water conservation will be disseminated among students and parents to ensure the campaign reaches every household effectively.

To ensure active student participation, essay writing, debates, quizzes, painting, and other creative competitions will be held to instill a sense of sensitivity and responsibility towards water conservation. Furthermore, each school will conduct special campaigns to clean drinking water sources and water storage sites.

Through the laboratories of the Water Corporation, the quality of drinking water will be tested, and necessary purification will be ensured. The campaign will also include photo exhibitions on water conservation in schools, dialogues between students and parents, and awareness activities, making it a means for behavioral change.
