DMK-Led Alliance Poised for Two-Third Majority in Upcoming Elections, Says Shivakumar

Coimbatore, April 15: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of unity among Congress, DMK, and the INDIA alliance members on Wednesday. He stated that a united coalition is essential for ensuring good governance and maintaining peace in the country.

While campaigning for Congress candidate Gopinath Palaniyappan in the Erode (East) assembly constituency, Shivakumar accused the BJP of attempting to sow division based on linguistic and religious lines in South India.

He urged voters to reject such “divisive politics” and instead support parties committed to inclusive development. Highlighting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s role in strengthening the opposition alliance, Shivakumar asserted that the INDIA alliance has emerged as a robust and reliable platform capable of delivering stable, people-centric governance.

He further noted that the Congress-DMK partnership has stood the test of time and continuously earned the public’s trust. Pointing to the contributions of southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to the country’s economic growth, Shivakumar alleged that the central government has failed to adequately recognize their roles.

He stated that the DMK-led alliance would create a favorable environment for industries while also prioritizing welfare measures for the common people. Referring to the legacy of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, he mentioned that the “Dravidian model” has laid a strong foundation for social justice and development in the state.

Later addressing the media, Shivakumar expressed confidence that the DMK-led alliance would secure a two-thirds majority in the upcoming assembly elections. He claimed that the people of Tamil Nadu have already decided to vote for the ruling coalition, citing the government’s welfare schemes and the record of governance over the past five years.

He also announced that following a special session of Parliament, senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Kharge, will visit Tamil Nadu for campaigning.
