New Delhi, April 15: Nikolas Khamenia’s decision to enter the transfer portal after his first season at Duke took many by surprise. The former 5-star recruit from Harvard Westlake High School averaged 19.8 minutes per game, contributing 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds as the Blue Devils achieved an impressive 35-3 record.
With a year of experience now behind him, the 6-foot-8 Khamenia is expected to receive even more playing time as a sophomore next season. Although he remains in the transfer portal, a Duke podcast suggests there may be signs pointing to his potential return to Durham.
“The longer this situation unfolds, the more insiders are indicating that the door is not entirely closed on Nik Khamenia returning to Duke for another season,” said JJ Jackson on the Locked on Duke podcast.
Co-host Kevin Connelly echoed this sentiment, stating, “I agree, I don’t think it’s completely shut. I wouldn’t be shocked if he came back, but I would be surprised.”
With a top-ranked recruiting class joining the team and a wealth of talent returning under coach Jon Scheyer, Khamenia’s return could set the stage for an extraordinary season ahead.
