IPL 2026: Rain Threatens Second Qualifier, Who Will Secure the Final Ticket?

New Delhi, May 29: The second qualifier of IPL 2026 is set to take place on Friday between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The winning team will secure a spot in the finals. However, if rain disrupts the match, it will benefit GT.

The match will be held at the Maharaja Yadavendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, but no reserve day has been allocated for this qualifier. If the match is rained out on Friday, the rules state that a winner will be declared based on the points table. In this scenario, Gujarat Titans will advance to the finals.

According to IPL regulations, if the second qualifier is affected by rain, the team in a better position on the points table moves forward. GT finished second in the standings after the group stage, while Rajasthan Royals secured their playoff spot in fourth place.

If rain becomes a factor, it could significantly impact RR. However, according to AccuWeather, clear weather is expected in New Chandigarh on Friday. The likelihood of rain during the match is minimal, with maximum temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures at 23 degrees Celsius.

Rajasthan Royals showcased an impressive performance in the eliminator, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs. Batting first, RR scored 243 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryaanshi played a spectacular innings, scoring 97 runs off just 29 balls, while Dhruv Jurel added 50 runs off 21 balls. In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed only 196 runs while chasing the target of 244.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans faced a significant defeat in the first qualifier against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), losing by 92 runs. RCB set a target of 254 runs after scoring 254 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs, while GT was all out for 162 runs.
