Bengaluru, March 3: Following approval from the Karnataka state government, the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are set to return to their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. It has been confirmed that RCB will host five home matches in Bengaluru this season.
Additionally, two remaining home matches of the IPL 2026 campaign will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, as per prior commitments.
Last year, when the franchise clinched its first IPL title, a tragic stampede occurred near the stadium due to mismanagement. The Karnataka government initiated an investigation into the incident, leading to a suspension of all activities at Chinnaswamy Stadium. This prompted the franchise to seek a new home venue. However, things have since improved, and the government has recently granted permission to host matches at the stadium.
In a press release on Tuesday, RCB stated, “This achievement comes after months of hard work and close coordination among all relevant authorities, aimed solely at bringing matches back to the home ground for the fans.”
The RCB management expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Karnataka government, Karnataka State Cricket Association, and Karnataka Police for their continuous guidance, cooperation, and support in facilitating the matches in Bengaluru. The collaborative efforts to enhance infrastructure and security measures in time for the IPL season have ensured that the reigning champions will play most of their home games at their home ground.
Rajesh Menon, CEO of Royal Challengers Bangalore, remarked, “M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is not just our home ground; it is where our identity as a team truly comes alive. The energy our fans bring in Bengaluru has always been a driving force for our players, inspiring them at every phase of the game. Our fans have stood by us unconditionally. They deserve the chance to see their team compete at home. After completing the necessary processes for discussions and approvals, we are pleased to confirm that RCB will play five matches in Bengaluru. We sincerely thank the Karnataka government, KSCA, and Karnataka Police for their support in making this possible.”
The IPL Governing Council is expected to release the complete schedule for the 2026 edition of this mega event following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
