Bhubaneswar, August 15: On August 13, an Indigo flight scheduled to depart from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata at 4:30 PM was canceled after a technical issue was detected by the pilot during boarding.
The flight was canceled with passenger safety and operational precautions in mind. Following the cancellation, all 56 passengers were safely returned to the arrival area.
The sudden cancellation caused dissatisfaction among some passengers, leading to heightened emotions. However, the coordinated efforts of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), CISF, and Indigo staff quickly brought the situation under control.
To minimize inconvenience, all passengers were provided refreshments and alternative travel arrangements were made. Eleven passengers were accommodated on subsequent flights to Kolkata via Delhi, while arrangements for hotel stays were made for 19 others. Indigo also issued compensation vouchers worth ₹5,000 to all 30 affected passengers.
The remaining passengers received a full refund of their booking amounts from the airline.
During the incident, a passenger named Mamoni Kharat reportedly damaged the AAI monitor, keyboard, and swiping machine at the check-in counter. CISF personnel intervened to manage the situation.
An FIR was subsequently filed against the passenger at the airport police station for allegedly damaging public property. The passenger was also provided with an alternative flight to Kolkata via Delhi.
The AAI emphasized that safety is their top priority. Bhubaneswar Airport is committed to providing safe, smooth, and passenger-friendly operations, especially in unexpected circumstances.
