Indigo Airlines to Implement Fuel Surcharge on Flights Starting March 14

New Delhi, March 13: India’s largest airline, Indigo, announced on Friday that it will introduce a fuel surcharge on both domestic and international flight tickets starting March 14. This decision comes in response to a significant rise in aviation turbine fuel (jet fuel) prices due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement, the airline mentioned that the fuel surcharge will range from ₹425 to ₹2,300, depending on the specific route.

According to Indigo, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have led to a sharp increase in jet fuel prices, significantly raising operational costs for airlines.

Indigo stated, “As India’s leading airline, Indigo will implement a fuel charge on both domestic and international routes starting March 14, 2026.”

The airline noted that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported an over 85% increase in fuel prices in the region, necessitating this action.

Starting March 14, this fuel surcharge will apply to all domestic and international tickets. Indigo emphasized that the recent surge in jet fuel prices has considerably increased operational expenses.

Previously, Air India and Air India Express also announced fuel surcharges on flight tickets.

According to the airline group, a fuel surcharge of ₹399 per ticket has been in effect for domestic flights since March 12. This charge also applies to certain destinations in South Asia.

For international flights, the additional fee will vary by destination. Passengers flying to West Asia will incur an extra charge of $10 per ticket, while those heading to Africa will need to pay between $30 to $90 extra.

Flights to Southeast Asia will see a fuel surcharge ranging from $20 to $60.

The airlines indicated that due to rising fuel prices, this surcharge will be phased in across various domestic and international routes to manage increasing costs.
