Indigenous DSC A24 Vessel Launched for Maritime Operations in Kolkata

Kolkata, August 2: The Indian Navy has achieved another significant milestone under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. The fifth and final vessel of the Diving Support Craft (DSC) project was launched on Sunday at the Titagarh Shipyard in Kolkata. The ceremony was conducted in a grand manner, adhering to the Navy’s traditions and formalities.

Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, the Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy, was present as the vessel was launched into the water. Senior officials from the Indian Navy and M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) also attended the event.

The DSC A24, also known as Yard 329, is the fifth ship in the Diving Support Craft project. It has been constructed by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in accordance with IRS and naval regulations.

The vessel features a catamaran hull form with a displacement of approximately 300 to 400 tons. This design provides enhanced stability, a larger deck area, and improved performance at sea, all of which are essential for diving operations.

The catamaran hull form consists of two parallel hulls of equal size, connected above by a shared deck or bridgedeck, rather than a single large structure.

Equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems, the DSC A24 is specifically designed for operational dives.

One of the vessel’s key features is its indigenous equipment. About 70 percent of the main and auxiliary equipment used in the ship is sourced from domestic manufacturers. This is why the DSC is celebrated as a proud representative of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

The inclusion of these vessels in the Indian Navy will significantly enhance capabilities in diving support, underwater inspection, rescue assistance, and coastal operational deployment.

These ships, being built for the Indian Navy, are a testament to engineering excellence and indigenous capability. They will not only bolster the Navy’s maritime strength but also represent a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in the defense sector.
