India’s Ministry of External Affairs Expands Presence on Snapchat

New Delhi, August 6: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially launched its presence on Snapchat, a popular multimedia messaging app. This move allows millions of followers to access important and accurate information on yet another platform. On Thursday, the MEA announced its entry into Snapchat and encouraged users to connect with its official account.

The MEA shared this news through a video clip posted across various social media platforms. In its appeal to followers, the ministry claimed that users would find “exclusive stories, updates, engaging content, and other vital information.”

For some time now, the MEA has been sharing essential information related to its missions (embassies/high commissions) in various countries through platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.

Snapchat is particularly popular among the younger generation (Gen Z). The app allows users to send photos and short videos, known as “snaps,” which disappear after a few seconds of viewing. Additionally, shared photos and videos remain visible on the user’s profile for 24 hours.

The Ministry has been active on social media and frequently warns the public about fake accounts and scammers offering paid advice related to foreign policy.

The MEA regularly shares videos and images showcasing its diplomatic communications, high-level meetings, and international activities, providing citizens with insights into India’s foreign policy and global diplomatic efforts.

In the last week of July 2026, the MEA also launched its official fact-check account on Instagram. This initiative aims to quickly debunk fake news, rumors, and misleading claims related to India’s foreign policy and international affairs circulating on social media.
