Indian Womens Hockey Team Celebrated for FIH Nations Cup Victory

New Delhi, June 21: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated the Indian women’s hockey team for winning the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2025-26. He described this remarkable achievement as a testament to the team’s hard work, dedication, and teamwork.

In the final held in Auckland on Sunday, India defeated the host nation, New Zealand, with a score of 2-0. Following the victory, Vice President Radhakrishnan took to social media to express his congratulations, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women’s hockey team for winning the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup. This remarkable achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and teamwork. The nation is proud of their success. I wish them continued success and hope they achieve even more honors for India.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the team on ‘X’, saying, “Congratulations to our women’s hockey team for their splendid victory in the FIH Women’s Nations Cup 2025-26. Your aggressive style of play, exceptional skills, and indomitable spirit have inspired the entire nation and motivated more players to become future champions.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian team on ‘X’, stating, “Indian hockey players have elevated the nation’s pride and brought joy. Congratulations to the women’s team for winning the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup. The team showcased excellent performance throughout the tournament. Best wishes to the team. I hope this victory inspires more people to play hockey.”

India showcased an outstanding all-around performance to secure their second Nations Cup title and earned promotion for the next season of the FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League. Navneet Kaur opened the scoring with a penalty corner goal in the fourth minute. Sunilita Toppo doubled the lead in the 15th minute by cleverly deflecting Deepika’s powerful shot.

With this victory, India continued its unbeaten streak. The team topped Pool A by defeating the USA (3-2), Japan (2-1), and Uruguay (3-2). In the semifinals, India delivered a crushing 6-0 defeat to Chile. This was India’s second Nations Cup title, having previously won the inaugural edition in 2022.

Lalremsiami was named ‘Player of the Match’ for her outstanding performance in the final. Deepika finished as one of the top scorers of the tournament, netting six goals and sharing the top spot with the USA’s Ashley Sessa.

In recognition of this achievement, Hockey India announced a cash prize of 3 lakh rupees for each player and 1.5 lakh rupees for every support staff member.
