New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian contingent preparing for the Asian Games 2026 was officially sent off in New Delhi on September 8. The Games are set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. During the farewell ceremony, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, urged the athletes to transform the pressure of competition into performances that enhance the nation’s sporting achievements.
Organized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the event included athletes, coaches, support staff, and officials heading to Japan. Mandaviya participated alongside IOA President P.T. Usha.
In his address, Mandaviya expressed confidence in the athletes, stating, “This country has no shortage of talent. We are progressing day by day, year by year. We must convert pressure into performance, opportunities into achievements. I am sure our team will excel at the Asian Games and elevate the nation’s pride.”
Usha encouraged the athletes to enjoy the moment rather than feel burdened by expectations. She reminded them of their journey to become some of Asia’s best players. “Do not be intimidated by this opportunity. Make it memorable. Reflect on how far you’ve come. You have earned your place among Asia’s elite. Instead of carrying the weight of expectations, harness the strength they provide. Go onto the field, enjoy the competition, and give it your all. Approach it with confidence, courage, humility, and the belief that you can compete with anyone in Asia,” she said.
The ceremony also featured a panel discussion with Olympic medalist Swapnil Kusale, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Asmita Dev, Commonwealth medalist and weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav, and kabaddi star Pawan Sahrawat.
India aims to build on its record-breaking performance from the 2023 Asian Games, where the country secured a total of 107 medals.
