The AYUSH Ministry has released new treatment guidelines for skin disorders, integrating traditional medicine with modern practices.

New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Ministry of AYUSH has made a significant advancement in the treatment of skin-related disorders by releasing standard treatment guidelines (STG) for Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy, which also incorporates yoga.
These guidelines were developed by the AYUSH department under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The primary goal is to enhance uniformity, quality, and evidence-based treatment in clinical care within AYUSH systems. The new directives aim to standardize AYUSH care for conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, dermatitis, and other skin issues.
Prataprao Jadhav, the Minister of State for AYUSH, emphasized that these guidelines will help integrate AYUSH systems more closely with the national healthcare framework. He stated, “These guidelines promote safe, effective, and holistic care for common skin diseases by combining system-specific clinical approaches with contemporary scientific evidence. By promoting standardized and evidence-based clinical practices, they will aid in improving patient care.”
Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the AYUSH Ministry, remarked that the standard treatment guidelines for skin disorders represent a crucial step in strengthening standardization and evidence-based practices within AYUSH systems. He noted that they provide practical recommendations for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up while preserving the core principles of each system.
Dr. Lavneesh G. Krishna, Director General of Health Services, highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, stating that these guidelines will assist AYUSH practitioners in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
The guidelines were released on the occasion of the 11th Ayurveda Day and include specific recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of common skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, vitiligo, urticaria, and dermatophytosis.
These guidelines were developed in collaboration with AYUSH research councils, senior academic experts, yoga specialists, and modern medical professionals. They were also field-verified with medical officers working in primary and secondary healthcare in partnership with the Delhi government’s AYUSH Directorate to assess their practical utility.
