Madhya Pradesh Suspends License of Shalby Hospital Following Fire Incident

The Madhya Pradesh health department has suspended Shalby Hospitals license after a fire incident, pending new safety audits.

Jabalpur, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Madhya Pradesh health department has suspended the license of Shalby Hospital in Jabalpur following a fire incident that occurred on October 11. This decision was made as officials await updated electrical and fire safety audit reports before determining further actions.

Chief Medical Officer Naveen Kothari confirmed that a team inspected the hospital after the fire and subsequently recommended the suspension of its license. He stated that the health department, along with the municipal corporation’s building and fire departments, is currently waiting for their assessments to evaluate the hospital’s safety measures.

Kothari expressed hope that the health department and the municipal corporation would soon provide updated reports on the electrical audit. The investigation revealed significant deficiencies in the hospital’s fire safety protocols, including a non-functional fire alarm system, blocked fire exits, and issues with the electrical panel.

The fire broke out in a semi-private ward, prompting the swift relocation of patients to safety. This incident raised serious concerns regarding the hospital’s fire safety systems and adherence to established safety standards.

In light of the investigation’s findings, health officials have mandated the suspension of the hospital’s license and requested new reports from the relevant departments. These audits are crucial to determine whether the hospital meets essential safety requirements.

During the suspension, Shalby Hospital has been instructed not to admit new patients. It must also ensure that current patients receive appropriate care and make arrangements for their safe discharge or transfer based on their medical conditions.

Kothari noted that any further actions will depend on the reports from the respective departments and the hospital’s compliance with safety regulations.
