Imran Khan to Challenge Notice to Leave India by October 28 in Bombay High Court

Bollywood actor Imran Khan plans to contest a notice requiring him to leave India by October 28, citing legal grounds.

Mumbai, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Bollywood actor Imran Khan is preparing to challenge a notice requiring him to leave India by October 28. This notice was issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), citing violations of the Foreigners Act.

Sources indicate that Khan is considering filing a writ petition in the Bombay High Court against this directive. He has assigned the legal firm MZDM Legal LLP to represent him in this matter. However, it remains unclear when the petition will be submitted.

Zulfikar Memon, managing partner of MZDM Legal LLP, declined to comment when approached for details regarding the case. As a result, no comprehensive statement has been released by Khan’s legal team yet.

The controversy surrounding Khan arose following a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The demonstration, organized by the “Cockroach Public Party” (CJP), demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan participated in the protest, during which he and several others were briefly detained by police before being released.

This incident has raised questions about Khan’s citizenship and his involvement in political protests in India. Reports suggest that Khan is not an Indian citizen; he holds American citizenship and possesses a U.S. passport. Additionally, he has an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, which has led to legal scrutiny regarding his participation in such demonstrations.

Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has filed a complaint regarding this issue, urging police and relevant authorities to investigate whether Khan, as an American citizen, should be allowed to participate in political protests in India. Somaiya has also requested action against Khan from the Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration officials, including a demand for a look-out circular against the actor.
