Indian Ministry Forms Expert Committee to Ensure Safe Use of Gokshura and Chandrashura

New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Ministry of AYUSH has recently taken a significant step to ensure the safe use of two important medicinal plants, Gokshura and Chandrashura. These plants have played a vital role in traditional medicine for centuries, particularly in Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani systems, which utilize them to promote health and wellness.

Chandrashura, known scientifically as Lepidium sativum, is renowned for its nutritional and health benefits. In Ayurveda, it has been traditionally used to improve digestion, enhance strength, and boost overall energy levels. This plant is widely recognized for its nourishing properties.

On the other hand, Gokshura, or Tribulus terrestris, holds a special place in traditional medicine. With a long history of use, it has attracted growing interest worldwide in recent years. As a result, the scientific and research community is increasingly examining its traditional applications through the lens of modern science.

As the global trend towards herbal and Ayurvedic products continues to rise, questions regarding their quality, efficacy, and safety have emerged. To foster consumer trust and ensure safe usage, it is essential to have solid scientific evidence supporting these plants. Acknowledging this need, the AYUSH Ministry has made a decisive move.

The Ministry is now placing greater emphasis on the safety profiles of Gokshura and Chandrashura. In light of new regulatory concerns, it has established a multidisciplinary expert committee that includes specialists from various fields. This committee will prepare evidence-based technical reports, or dossiers, aimed at strengthening scientific understanding of these medicinal plants.

Additionally, the committee will identify areas where knowledge gaps exist and determine future research needs. The Ministry believes that these technical reports will aid regulatory bodies in making informed and scientific decisions. This initiative not only promotes the safe use of these plants but also bridges traditional knowledge with modern scientific understanding.
