CRPF Soldier Dies from Dengue Fever Amid Unity Day Parade Preparations in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : A 26-year-old soldier from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has tragically died from dengue fever while preparing for the National Unity Day parade in Gujarat. The deceased, identified as Amal Barman from Assam, was among 43 soldiers now confirmed to have contracted the virus.

Dr. Vipula Pandya, the resident medical officer at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, reported that Barman first sought treatment on October 3, where he tested positive for dengue. At that time, his condition seemed stable, and he was advised to rest at home.

However, after three days, Barman returned to the hospital with worsening symptoms. Tests revealed a significant drop in his platelet count, prompting his admission for further care. Early Wednesday morning, he experienced chest pain and discomfort, which ultimately led to his death.

Dr. Pandya confirmed that Barman was part of a contingent in Gandhinagar for the upcoming National Unity Day parade, scheduled for October 31 in Ekta Nagar. The hospital has seen an increase in dengue cases, with the number of infected soldiers rising from an initial 24 to 43.

In response to the outbreak, health officials have initiated extensive fogging and anti-larval operations at the soldiers’ accommodations and parade grounds. Health Minister Praful Pansheriya has directed that four health workers be stationed in each block of government housing to monitor the situation and prevent water accumulation.

As of the 40th week of 2026, Gujarat’s health department reported over 1.39 million blood samples tested for malaria, with 1,401 cases identified. Additionally, more than 150,000 serum samples were analyzed for dengue across 42 hospitals, leading to the confirmation of 2,345 dengue cases during the same period.
