Andhra Pradesh Governor Launches 77th TB Seal Sale Campaign

Vijayawada, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Governor S. Abdul Nazeer of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the 77th TB seal sale campaign on Wednesday at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan in Vijayawada. As the president of the Andhra Pradesh TB Association, he highlighted the historical significance of the event.

During his address, Nazeer reflected on the discovery of the tuberculosis (TB) bacteria by Sir Robert Koch 144 years ago. He noted that despite significant advancements in controlling the disease, TB remains a deadly threat. The governor emphasized that TB is not merely a medical issue but also a social and economic one, affecting individuals, families, and communities alike.

Nazeer stated that the response to TB should encompass more than just treatment. It must include awareness, early detection, prevention, nutrition, social support, and community participation. He also mentioned the central government’s initiative, the “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,” which aims to eradicate TB in India before the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals deadline. This initiative calls for collaboration between the government and society.

The TB seal sale campaign is particularly significant, according to Nazeer, as it fosters public awareness and encourages community involvement. He urged citizens, educational institutions, industries, corporate entities, NGOs, and donors to contribute generously to the campaign and support this vital cause.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Arun Kumar Kanti Mohanty, Dr. P.S. Sharma, Vice Presidents Dr. Kodali Ramakrishna and Dr. B. Masilamani, General Secretary Dr. P. Jayakar Babu, and Joint Director and Honorary Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh TB Association, Dr. T. Ramesh, among others.
