Mumbai, March 12: The Indian cricket team is set for a packed schedule over the next 12 months. This includes matches in Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, along with participation in the Asian Games, and series in England, the USA, Bangladesh, Japan, and various domestic matches.
Three T20 Matches Against Sri Lanka Under Surya’s Captaincy
According to Cricbuzz, the team led by Suryakumar Yadav is likely to play three T20 matches in Sri Lanka during July-August. This series is part of a plan to raise funds for flood relief in Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently considering the response from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding this initiative.
India’s Tour of England Before Sri Lanka Series
Before heading to Sri Lanka, India will tour England from July 1 to 19 for three ODIs and five T20 matches, with a potential stop in Ireland. Discussions are ongoing about a three-match series in Dublin. A source mentioned, “Negotiations are in progress,” expressing confidence that the series will take place. The BCCI has previously collaborated with Cricket Ireland for short series in 2018, 2022, and 2023.
Series Against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan
Following the Sri Lanka series, the BCCI may face scheduling challenges. In September, a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan is planned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), coinciding with a busy month for Indian cricket. Additionally, a tour to Bangladesh for six white-ball matches—three ODIs and three T20s—has been announced, pending approval from the Indian government due to recent diplomatic tensions.
There are also talks about a short tour to Zimbabwe for a three-match T20 series, although details remain unclear. This tour could occur in September, around the same time the West Indies are scheduled to visit India for three ODIs and five T20 matches.
Asian Games, New Zealand Series, and Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The 2026 Asian Games are set to take place from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya, Japan. The cricket competition will be held in T20 format, with India as the defending gold medalist. Men’s matches will run from September 25 to October 3, increasing the likelihood of the T20 squad playing in Japan while an ODI team competes against the West Indies.
Following this, the Indian team is expected to arrive in New Zealand on October 18 for a comprehensive tour featuring five ODIs, five T20s, and two Tests. It is understood that the BCCI and New Zealand Cricket have recently agreed to increase the number of ODIs from three to five. The first Test is scheduled to commence on October 22.
India is anticipated to return home in the first week of December, where they will face Sri Lanka in three ODIs and three T20 matches. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to take place in January-February 2027, followed by the 20th season of the Indian Premier League from March to May 2027.
