
New Delhi, May 24: The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio‘s visit to India coincided with a National Day reception at the U.S. Embassy, where Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar delivered a keynote address. During the ceremony, Jaishankar emphasized the significant contributions of Indians residing in the United States across various sectors, including technology, education, medicine, entrepreneurship, and public service.
At the National Day celebration, Jaishankar expressed his delight in joining the festivities marking the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence. He extended greetings to Secretary Rubio, Ambassador Sergio Gore, and the American people through them. He noted that the ideals of the Declaration have shaped modern concepts such as individual liberty, the rule of law, free speech, and accountable governance, influencing democratic movements and struggles for freedom worldwide. He highlighted India’s long history as a pluralistic society with a consultative approach.
Jaishankar also stressed the mutual interest of India and the U.S. in combating all forms of terrorism, advocating for a clear stance on zero tolerance towards terrorism. He remarked that the connections between people have been a distinctive aspect of the bilateral relationship, with Indians in America making substantial contributions in various fields.
He recalled that a year ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump set the course for enhancing their enduring partnership, aiming to fulfill the hopes of their people for a prosperous future while contributing to global welfare.
Additionally, Jaishankar shared on social media platform X that he was pleased to participate in the National Day celebration alongside Secretary Rubio, emphasizing the shared benefits and synergies between India and the U.S. as political, democratic, market economies, and open societies. He underscored the strengthening links of their strategic partnership across multiple domains.
Ambassador Sergio Gore remarked on the historic milestone of celebrating 250 years of American independence in New Delhi, expressing his honor in hosting Secretary Rubio, Dr. Jaishankar, and other distinguished guests. He celebrated the spirit of innovation and freedom that defines America, wishing for a lasting partnership and deepening friendship between the U.S. and India for many more years to come.
