Indian Coast Guards Daring Rescue Saves Six Fishermen from Rough Seas

New Delhi, June 30: In a remarkable display of courage and readiness, the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued six fishermen from perilous conditions at sea. According to the Coast Guard, on the evening of June 29, the fishing vessel ‘Manju Matha’ encountered distress near the Karnataka coast of Mangaluru.

Located approximately 33 nautical miles from Surathkal beach, the vessel began taking on water due to the raging sea conditions. The structural integrity of the boat was compromised, putting the lives of the six fishermen at risk. Around 4 PM, a distress call was received via radio from the troubled fishing boat.

Upon receiving the message, the Coast Guard promptly redirected its vessel, ‘Sachet,’ towards the distressed boat. The rescue team arrived on the scene within just 90 minutes. However, the operation was fraught with challenges. High waves, strong winds, poor visibility, and encroaching darkness posed constant obstacles. Nevertheless, the Coast Guard personnel exhibited patience and skill throughout the operation.

They deployed special remote-controlled life buoys into the sea and successfully extracted each fisherman one by one. By 6 PM, all six fishermen were safely rescued, with no injuries reported. Following the rescue, the Coast Guard vessel headed towards New Mangaluru Port with the fishermen on board.

This operation once again underscores that the Indian Coast Guard not only monitors maritime boundaries but also acts as a lifesaver in times of crisis. The force stated that in line with its motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah’ (We Protect), the Coast Guard is always prepared to face every challenge at sea. The successful rescue operation exemplifies the Coast Guard’s rapid response capability, professional expertise, and commitment to maritime safety. Despite the numerous challenges faced, the personnel demonstrated exceptional courage, outstanding maritime skills, and precise coordination.

After the successful rescue, the Indian Coast Guard vessel ‘Sachet’ proceeded to the port to safely disembark the rescued fishermen and complete necessary formalities.
