Indian Boxers Shine on Day Two of Boxing World Cup

New Delhi, June 16: On the second day of the Boxing World Cup (Stage 2), Indian boxers Jyoti, Prachi, and Nikhil showcased their skills, securing victories in their respective matches. These athletes have advanced to the next round of the competition held at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Guiyang, China.

In the women’s 57-kilogram category, Prachi defeated USA’s Deborah Grant with a unanimous decision of 5-0, propelling her forward in the tournament.

In the women’s 48-kilogram category, Jyoti triumphed over Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari with a referee stops contest (RSC) decision in the second round. This crucial victory has secured Jyoti a spot in the semifinals, guaranteeing a medal for the country.

In the men’s 55-kilogram category, Nikhil achieved a hard-fought victory against France’s Christopher Hippocrate with a split decision of 3-2.

On the second day, other matches saw Poonam (54 kilograms) narrowly lose to Taiwan’s Hsiao Wen Huang by a score of 2-3. Akash (75 kilograms) also faced defeat against Poland’s Mateusz Urban, losing 2-3. In the women’s 70-kilogram category, Gitimoni was eliminated after losing 0-5 to France’s Maëlys Richol.

On the third day of the competition, five Indian boxers will step into the ring. Nikhil (55 kilograms) will aim to continue his winning streak against Brazil’s Kelvin Trindade, while Deepak (70 kilograms) will compete against Japan’s Sevon Okazawa. Malsawmtlunga (80 kilograms) will face Jordan’s Ashaysh Hussein.

In the women’s division, Saneh (65 kilograms) will battle South Korea’s Seon Sujin, and Mahi Lama (60 kilograms) will go up against Mongolia’s Monkhor Namun.

– Nikhil (55 kilograms) defeated Christopher Hippocrate (France) 3-2.
