Indian Athletes Shine at Asian Games 2026, PM Modi Offers Congratulations

New Delhi, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Indian athletes have made a remarkable impact at the Asian Games 2026, currently taking place in Aichi-Nagoya. As of Saturday, India has amassed a total of 30 medals, including 4 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the medalists and expressed hopes for their bright futures.

The Indian women’s kabaddi team clinched gold by defeating Iran 37-34 in a thrilling final. PM Modi took to social media platform X to celebrate their victory, stating, “What an exciting final for our women’s kabaddi team! Congratulations to our players who displayed remarkable courage, composure, and teamwork. India is proud of its kabaddi champions. Wishing them even more success in the future.”

Just hours after the women’s victory, the Indian men’s kabaddi team also triumphed over Iran, winning 40-34 in their final. PM Modi praised the men’s team, writing, “Once again, champions! Congratulations to our men’s kabaddi team for retaining the gold medal at the Asian Games. Their determination has elevated the nation’s pride. Their success will inspire many budding athletes. Best wishes for their future endeavors.”

In the women’s 50-meter rifle 3 position team event, the trio of Tilottama Sen, Vidisha Vinod Kochhar, and Aashi Choukse secured a silver medal with a total score of 1,763 points. PM Modi commended their performance, saying, “Congratulations to Tilottama, Vidisha, and Aashi for their excellent precision in winning the silver medal. May they achieve even greater successes in the future.”

In mixed doubles table tennis, the pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale claimed bronze after defeating the world number four duo. Though they faced a setback against the world number two team in the semifinals, both losing teams were awarded bronze medals. This achievement marks India’s fourth medal in table tennis at the Asian Games. PM Modi congratulated them, stating, “Winning the bronze medal in the mixed doubles table tennis event adds another proud moment to the growing popularity of this sport in India. Best wishes for their future endeavors, as their determination will inspire many young players.”

Tejinderpal Singh Toor earned a silver medal in the men’s shot put final, marking his third consecutive medal at the Asian Games. Indian squash players Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar also brought home a bronze medal in mixed doubles. They faced a tough semifinal match against Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong but, under the Asian Games rules, both losing semifinal teams were awarded bronze medals. PM Modi recognized their achievement, saying, “Congratulations to Joshna and Velavan for winning the bronze medal in the squash mixed team event. Their skill and determination are extraordinary. For Joshna, this marks her continuous participation in the Asian Games and winning a medal in every edition since 2010. Their consistent performance is truly commendable.
