Bhubaneswar, August 5: India, under its BRICS presidency for 2026, will host the 13th meeting of BRICS Education Ministers and the third meeting of BRICS senior officials from August 5 to 7 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Education ministers, senior officials, and representatives from BRICS member countries will participate in these meetings. Key topics for discussion will include strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), promoting skill development, and enhancing collaboration under the BRICS Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Cooperation Alliance. The meetings will also focus on encouraging joint research, innovation, and startups, as well as reinforcing mutual recognition of academic qualifications (MRQ) and capacity building for educational leadership.
The theme of India’s BRICS presidency is based on “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.” This approach reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision presented at the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025, emphasizing a “people-centered and humanity-first” mindset.
The 13th meeting of education ministers and the third meeting of senior officials will advance various programs previously conducted under the BRICS education track during India’s presidency.
Earlier, the first and second meetings of BRICS senior officials were held on April 7 and April 28, respectively. Following these, the BRICS Network University Conference and the International Steering Committee meeting took place on July 20-21, 2026. These meetings have facilitated consensus on priority topics and proposed outcomes.
Prior to the education ministers’ meeting, a BRICS TVET seminar and a joint management committee (JMC) meeting of the BRICS TVET Cooperation Alliance were held in New Delhi on August 3 and 4, 2026. This initiative was led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The aim of these programs is to strengthen cooperation among BRICS nations in technical and vocational education and training, skill development, workforce preparedness, and the exchange of research and best practices.
In addition to high-level government meetings, India’s BRICS presidency places special emphasis on increasing youth participation and enhancing connections among people.
